Mastery of Self Care

Emo

EMO = Emotional.

Well boys and girls :)… I guess this sophisticated human being with its mysterious and ever exciting human brain is truly a wonder of this whole Universe.

Why are we so special? It’s very simple. Because we’re not machines. Because we have a heart and a mind that can give birth to an infinity. We are so powerful!

However there’s a down after every up. Physically, around 60% of our body represents water. Spiritually, we are overflowing. Affectivity means life.

The downside of having intense feelings?

Two main aspects: free will abuse and influences that misdirect. The emo mentality (belonging to those “weird” teenagers, always depressed and isolated – that’s how people see and know them) doesn’t happen to fall under neither one of these categories which represent gateways to a damaged world.

Most teenagers who have been approaching this style are of two types, in my opinion:

(a)Those that chose to do this and… (b)those which this mentality itself choses to “hunt”.

Leaving aside the looks and style of a trend (cult) like this, which is a totally a different chapter, the roots of its beliefs are not to be overlooked, when it comes to understanding the behavior of its followers.

When you see or talk about these kids, it’s easy to push them against the wall and point out their “abnormal” habits. But… if one has respect for the value of the human being, he/she should try and scale an individual of its protective layers that the society constrains him/her to develop over time, and see the true identity from within.

You knock some guy down, some shield begins to show after that. He get’s knocked down again, more shield uncovers. Humanity today is fully armored.

So to get to know somebody is not that easy, because what can be seen is not the real thing when it comes to people. Emo kids are not any different.

If there is one thing that I’ve learned throughout my life experience, this is it:

Never judge other people! (because you don’t know and in some cases you’ll never know the history behind their deeds, what determined their actions).

How would you FEEL if you parents never gave you any importance?

WHAT are you if you are not allowed to think or act for yourself?

Would your life be any different right now if your parents hadn’t fought all the time totally NEGLECTING you as a kid?

There are a lot more questions that can lead to possible explanations to why some teenagers joined this trend. You know… sadness always has a starting point, a reason. It just happens that the world these days is in a crazy rush. Peopledon’t have any patience left. Nobody really cares… anymore, to discover the truth.

And so, there’s a possibility that social/family issues gave birth to this type of emotional reactions (well, this and the 90’s rock). But does it involve stress experiencing?

Yes and no. Most devotee kids identify with sadness (dying their hair black, listening to sad songs…). But, here comes the million dollar question: if they like being who they are, and they can’t identify with any other fashion or kind of songs, is it really the right thing to look at them with pity ?

It’s their world! It’s a little weird, but it’s theirs.

Everybody experiences stress. I think emo kids are experiencing a constant inadaptation feeling. “There is no one to talk to about this” or “I don’t understand why things can’t just be this way”, etc.

On the other hand we all heard about suicide attempts and self provoking pain in discussions about these kids, all because they are trying to find “a way out”, peace, a solution. Very disturbing indeed.

My guess is that these kids will come to peace and try to taste the “normal” world when people will change into better (upgrade into “better” human beings).

In the mean time, we still have a problem with most people when we talk about emotional demand.

Robert Karasek said that…

“Certainly many emotional communications are demanding because of all the ‘implications’ of the message for the personal relationships involved, and the strategies needed in selecting and evaluating alternative messages.”

Man isn’t always ready to adapt to difficult situations he maybe facing. While some people, in time, develop such coping skills that they become ready for anything (…well almost anything), others are prisoners of their own emotions.

Why?

Let’s put it this way: We’re each built having different “amounts of affectivity”. Relate this with the fact that everybody’s living a personal life and you will have a diversity of emotional activity spread throughout the world.

But when things get complicated, or rather when we make thingscomplicated (willingly or not) it’s hard to remain of stone and not get emotionally involved.

In fact, a lot of self control training is needed to gain that peace, that calmness that could get you through moments of tension.

Maladaptation reactions to difficult situations (expected to happen or not) usually flow like this:

-first there is a blocking of movements, increase of muscular tonus, then a confusing and specific emotional discharge. The increase of this nervous tension is produced by the excitement of emotional centers, which explains why the same person could react very fast and in apparently contradictory manners: some times he’s paralyzed, some times he agitates frantically, when faced with an important obstacle.

Theoretically and practically, the intensity and duration of intense feelings reactions depend on the importance of the disruptive factors as perceived by the individual.

It’s inevitable!

Mankind is built on affectivity. Actually I can say that we’re able to live, practically, thanks to feelings and sensations. Just like the car that runs on gas. No gas, no business.

No feelings, no flavor. The fact that we cannot control this excitability is understandable. I am not a robot. You are not a robot. We all have lives we want and wish to live to the full. Without feelings our lives would be dull and monotonous.

Take a look at this girl right here. Now… while watching the video, you would think she’s crazy. But try and observe how everybody relates to her ambition, courage, “madness”, joy, happiness and spirit.

Regardless of any kind of religion belief or race… pure positive energy emerges from this scene and that’s how souls are touched and motivated.

I’d watch it more than once… Ladies and Gentlemen.. one of the cutest recordings posted on the internet… prepare yourself.. for LeAndria Johnson:
